Lesson Presentation
Purpose
A lesson presentation, demonstration, or in-class lesson implementation is a very powerful training and reflection opportunity for educators, pre-service education students, and lesson developers. The COE-BI staff uses structured reflection tools that allow participants to observe a lesson being implemented and to reflect on their own experience as participants in a learning activity.
How to Run a Lesson Presentation Activity
There are many forms a lesson presentation can take. We have combined youth summer STEM camps with educator professional development workshops which provide educators the opportunity to participate as learners in an activity as well as observing on the sidelines. Depending on the setting and the desired outcome, interactive lesson demonstrations and presentations can be used to engage trainees in an immersive learner experience as well as to view both teaching and student responses from a distance.
Examples
- Participants teach a lesson they have designed for their fellow trainees
- PD participants observe and participate in an actual classroom or informal science activity at a museum, summer camp, or after school setting.
- Leaders of the workshop or PD can demonstrate a developed lesson with participants as learners and observers.
